Atlantis Background Color Key Concept - ID: octatlantis18518

An original background color key concept from the Disney Studios animated film, "Atlantis: The Lost Empire" (2001). Featuring some of the ancient and gorgeous artwork of Atlantis, the hand-painted concept was created at the studio by Joaquim Royo Morales, and used during the development of the film. The concept was used to develop and finalize the color palette, layout of the action, and the overall feel of the scene. When a color concept is finalized during production, it becomes the reference tool that animators use to paint cels and backgrounds, as well as to further progress through the storyboarding and layout of the individual scenes. This piece also has a cel overlay for the star imagery that overlaps where the star is positioned on the board painting, possibly to make the colors more vivid. Measuring 6.5"x9" overall, with the image itself measuring 4.25"x7", the painting is in very good condition with minor handling wear due to age and use.
